研究概要

EPUU is first and foremost committed to equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary for success in their future whether academically or professionally. As part of the EPUU team, my research agenda is to develop the conceptual frameworks and pedagogical approaches to guide the program that are in line with worldwide tertiary education standards, and also match our students needs and the unique educational context at Utsunomiya University. This has led to the integration and standardization of the English program’s curricula within an English for Academic Purposes framework (EGAP) and research projects aimed at supporting this development.

教育・研究活動の紹介

My main teaching focus is to take care of and keep developing the Honors program. This is the specially developed English course for students with a TOEIC score of 750 or higher. In addition, for the development of the EGAP program, the continued standardization of course syllabi are being created with clear academic objectives aligned with grading criteria within various courses. The different components of the program are being aligned both horizontally (within the same year courses) and vertically (within different year courses). And the key research projects I am involved in are developing the writing component of the first-year program and investigating the role of multimodality within the language classroom.

今後の展望

Supporting the EPUU teaching staff in their transition to an EGAP program is a priority. After an initial induction program to the EGAP approach, the focus is now on teaching writing skills. I am coordinating the team to develop a supplementary writing workbook for first-year students that will be developed over the academic year.

After identifying multimodality as a key aspect of the EGAP approach, now I am involved in researching how multimodal pedagogy can improve student engagement and outcomes. This encompasses brain-based education research and the effective implementation of technology in the classroom.

社会貢献等

I am actively involved in the JALT organization, right now helping to set up a chapter in Tochigi. In addition, I am a member of JACET and BALEAP.
